There are three types of boat that we sail; Laser 2's, Larks and Toppers.

Laser 2's

These boats were introduced into the University racing circuit a number of years ago in a bid to replace the aging Larks.  Laser 2's are faster than Larks but do require more skill to sail.  Laser 2's were developed to fill a gap in the market, Laser took it already exceptionally popular Laser 1 and increased the cockpit area a bit to accommodate another person.  The changed the rigging and sail plan and launch the 2.  The boat never really took off as expected due to some very severe teething problems, and ended up being a sort of obsolete boat before it even got going.  The 2 has been replaced by the new Laser 4000 which is a drastically different boat.  The 2 can be fun to sail but can also be demanding, we have three of them and they are I main racing boat.  Click here to see some pictures of 2's in action.

Larks.

The Lark has been around a lot longer than the 2, dating back to the sixties.  The boat has just reached it third design and is a well renowned and respected boat.  I have own several Larks over the years and find them to be excellent boats, in fact my current boat is a Lark.  The are very manoeuvrable and quick to accelerate, they are stable and easy to learn in.  Unlike the 2, they have a lot more room inside and are more comfortable to sail in, unfortunately we only have one at the moment.  Click here to see some Larks in action.

Toppers.

What can I say about a Topper, it's a small single handed boat, aimed mostly at early teens or small people and it has become a very popular club boat.  We only have one Topper but it can be a fun boat to mess about with.  Click here to see some Toppers.
